1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help websites remember information about your visit, which can make your next visit easier and the site more useful to you.
Similar technologies include:
- Local Storage: Data stored in your browser that persists until explicitly cleared
- Session Storage: Data stored temporarily during a browsing session
- Pixels/Beacons: Small images that track page visits and actions
2. How We Use Cookies
2.1 On Our Marketing Website (ordersource.app)
Our website uses cookies for the following purposes:
Essential Cookies
- Purpose: Enable core website functionality
- Examples: Session management, security features
- Required: Yes - these cannot be disabled
Analytics Cookies
- Purpose: Understand how visitors interact with our website
- Examples: Pages visited, time spent, traffic sources
- Required: No - you can opt out
Preference Cookies
- Purpose: Remember your settings and preferences
- Examples: Language preferences, display settings
- Required: No - you can opt out
2.2 Through Our Tracking Script (On Your Shopify Store)
The OrderSource tracking script installed on your Shopify store uses:
Local Storage (Not Cookies)
| Key | Purpose | Data Stored | Expiration |
|---|---|---|---|
ordersource_vid |
Visitor identification | Random UUID | Persistent until cleared |
ordersource_visitor |
UTM attribution | UTM parameters, first visit timestamp | Persistent until cleared |
Shopify Cookies (Read Only)
| Cookie | Purpose | Set By |
|---|---|---|
cart |
Order attribution matching | Shopify |
Important: Our tracking script does NOT set any cookies on your store visitors' devices. We use localStorage instead of cookies for visitor identification, only read the Shopify cart cookie to enable order matching, and do NOT use third-party tracking cookies. This approach means our attribution tracking works even when browsers block third-party cookies.
3. Third-Party Cookies
Our website may include content from third-party services that set their own cookies:
| Service | Purpose | Cookie Policy |
|---|---|---|
| Analytics Provider | Website analytics | See their privacy policy |
| Payment Processor | Billing through Shopify | Shopify's cookie policy |
We do not control these third-party cookies. Please refer to their respective privacy policies for more information.
4. Cookie Duration
Cookies can be either:
- Session Cookies: Temporary cookies deleted when you close your browser
- Persistent Cookies: Remain on your device for a set period or until you delete them
Our cookies typically fall into these categories:
| Type | Duration | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Session | Until browser closes | Session management |
| Persistent | Up to 1 year | Preferences, analytics |
5. Managing Cookies
5.1 Browser Settings
You can control and manage cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:
- View cookies stored on your device
- Delete individual cookies or all cookies
- Block cookies from specific or all websites
- Set preferences for first-party vs. third-party cookies
Here are links to cookie management instructions for common browsers:
5.2 Impact of Disabling Cookies
If you disable cookies:
- Essential cookies: The website may not function properly
- Analytics cookies: We won't be able to improve your experience based on usage data
- Preference cookies: You may need to re-enter preferences on each visit
5.3 OrderSource Tracking Script
To disable OrderSource tracking on a specific store:
- The store owner must remove the OrderSource app from their Shopify store
- Visitors can clear localStorage in their browser to remove stored visitor data
6. Do Not Track Signals
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) feature that sends a signal to websites you visit. There is currently no universal standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals.
Our marketing website: We respect DNT signals and will not track you for analytics purposes when DNT is enabled.
Our tracking script: DNT handling is the responsibility of the Shopify merchant using our app.
7. Cookie Consent
7.1 Our Website
When you first visit our website, we display a cookie consent banner allowing you to:
- Accept all cookies
- Accept only essential cookies
- Customize your preferences
You can change your preferences at any time by accessing the cookie settings link in our footer.
7.2 Merchant Stores
Shopify merchants using OrderSource are responsible for:
- Displaying appropriate cookie consent banners on their stores
- Informing visitors about the use of localStorage for attribution tracking
- Complying with GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable cookie consent requirements
We recommend merchants include information about OrderSource tracking in their cookie/privacy policies.
8. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. When we make changes:
- We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy
